Abstract

A new structural approach to shape recognition using attributed string matching with merging is described. A new type of edit operation, called merge, is introduced for combining and then matching any number of consecutive boundary primitives in one shape with those in another. The resulting string matching is shown useful by experimental results for general shape recognition.
