Abstract

In this paper, the random center/edge alignment (RCEA) PWM is analyzed. The random PWM strategy with triangle carriers is used to spread the dominant harmonic clusters, thereby avoiding generating severe electromagnetic interfere (EMI) in converters. Additionally, the power spectral density (PSD) of RCEA-PWM is also derived to evaluate the extent of harmonic spreading. Compared to the other random PWM strategy, RCEA-PWM is suitable for the implementation of current-controlled converters due to the fixed sampling instants. To validate the advantages of RCEA-PWM in the current-controlled converters, a current-controlled boost converter with all the control with input voltage = 80 V, output voltage = 200V, and switching frequency = 20kHz is implemented and the control schemes and RCEA-PWM are implemented in a field-programmable-gate-array-based (FPGA). The provided simulated and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the RCEA-PWM in current-controlled converters.
