Abstract

A pulse width modulation (PWM) driving scheme for freeform displays with multi-layer display media is proposed. The freeform display is constructed by a self-luminous display medium such as OLEDs and one/two non-self-luminous display medium/media such as LCDs to achieve a wider color gamut and a higher contrast ratio. The proposed PWM driving scheme is used to control the brightness of the self-luminous display medium and the transmittances of the non-self-luminous display medium/media to generate the gray level.
