Abstract

A general high yield synthesis for W2(O2CR)4 compounds is proposed based on eqn (1), wherein a WW triple bond is converted to a quadruple bond, and this has been established for RMe, Et and t-Bu. W2Et2(NMe2)4 + 4RCOOCOR → W2(O2CR)4 + 4RCONMe2 + C2H4 + C2H6 (1).
