A Bridge-node aided multi-hop routing scheme

Abstract

In recent years, a variety of ad hoc routing protocols has been proposed. In this paper, we propose a Bridge-node Aided Multi-hop Routing Scheme (BARS) to solve such a problem. In BARS, only bridge nodes behave as a router. Since routing functions are only involved in bridge nodes, routing overheads are drastic eliminated. Furthermore, BARS combines both the proactive routing and reactive routing. Experiment results show that if only half of nodes are bridge nodes and take the role of routers, BARS still obtains comparable performance compared to the previous approaches. Nevertheless, BARS greatly saves the power and resource usages since not all nodes are required to join the routing operations.
