Abstract

Hospice nursing records have all different kinds of paper forms that are complex to use. The nursing information system has been developed steadily in Taiwan except the hospice nursing records. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to find out the information requirements of the hospice nursing information systems. A qualitative study design was used to explore the information requirements of 12 nurses working at a hospice care unit. Face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were applied for data collection .Content analysis was used in methodology. After data were analyzed, three themes were identified as follows. (1) Easy operation and time saving documentation process- user friendly interface, speedy record and search process. (2) Integrated data and shared information purpose-consistent input forms based on systemized categories, easy to read content, statistical analysis function, and being able to link with all relevant features. (3) Support with clinical decision making function-has system reminder and decision support feature. Build up an integral information system of hospice nursing record could provide rich patient data to assist nurses in decision making process. The results of this research could not only provide the insights of the users' needs, but also served as references for other hospice information system design and development.
