Abstract
This report presented the care process of a 48 years-old male with the terminal stage of nasopharyngeal cancer who received hospice share-care and eventually hospice palliative ward care. Due to his relatively young age and difficulties in managing an intractable malignant fungating wound on the neck, care team members found themselves emotionally bonded to the patient & his families in the caring course. After the patient passed away, our team devoted three of our weekly psycho-social-spiritual discussion sessions to share and give feedback on thoughts and feelings. The themes for the discussions include ”The physician-patient relationship and boundaries”, ”Whose needs?”, ”Which patient prompt me to be more attentive?? ”How to distinguish my sadness? Comes from my personal life or patient related?” Through discussion, team members explored issues on ”How to face my emotion”, ”The touch moment when spiritualities meet” and ”Personal awareness and comprehension”. Our discussions introduced the awareness of both personal and team members. Through trusting and opening up our heart to the entire team, team members evoke self-understanding and learn to respect our differences. Through the awareness of physician/nurse-patient relationship, caretakers look retrospectively to think about problems faced while caring for ourself. Meanwhile team members are able to promptly respond to the needs of other members, thus forming a supportive system that allows each member to grow, to be understood and to be inspired, in turn completing a course on learning and reinforcements. In this regard this report is also a compilation report on team learning.
