Self-efficacy belief plays an important role on individual health-related behavior change or maintenance. Healthcare professionals should understand the concept and measurement of self-efficacy beliefs in order to assist patients to promote their health. The measurement of self-efficacy beliefs is task-specific. It is necessary to have various items to measure different health behaviors of patients in order to predict the accurate outcomes. By integrating theory and practical application, this paper addresses the concepts of self-efficacy beliefs and the application of self-efficacy belief scales, and also demonstrates some examples from authors' experiences of developing a self-efficacy scale. It is expected that this paper can provide the readers the important information while developing or selecting a self-efficacy belief instrument.
