Abstract

The aging of the population is a global trend. The cardiovascular disease is the leading cause that invades old people. The purpose of this study was to compare the cardiovascular function among Taichi exercisers (Taichi), general elderly population (normal) and hypertensive population (hyper). There were 42 subjects to carry on the ECG and the blood pressure diagnosis. Frequency-domain analysis of stationary RR intervals was performed, comparing the low-frequency power (LF, 0.04 to 0.15Hz), the high-frequency power (HF, 0.15 to 0.40Hz) and the variance in normalized units. Results showed: the RHR(rest heartbeat rate) of Taichi was the lowest, Normal second, and Hyper sufferer was the highest(p<.05). The sysbolic preassure and diabolic pressure of the Taichi and Normal were lower than Hyper(p<.05). The RR interval and LF of the Taichi were the highest, the Normal was second and the Hyper was the lowest (p<.05). The HF and varance of the Taichi and Normal were higher than Hyper (p<.05). This research assumed: Taichi exercise was a low-medium intensity exercises, and it emphasized slow and deep breath. To prevent the degeneration of the ANS (autonomic nerve system) function, raising the cardiovascular function contained positive result.
