Abstract

The roles of school nurses and services have evolved with societal change and the health needs of the population. It is a crucial responsibility for school nurses to develop self as well as professional knowledge in order to provide high-quality health services and create a healthy environment for serviced subjects. In recent years, our country has been devoted to implement children's health promotion programs, and to construct health-promoting schools, which is an important issue the present stage. During the process of developing health-promoting schools, the role of school nurses are diversified, including providing health services and supervising the implementation of the health-related plans, executing the assessment of health risk and school health environment, participating in and leading school health promotion and disease prevention policies and programs. School nurses also have the responsibility to assist the health-related projects. In summary, the school health nursing care model has changed from individual and independent to diverse and comprehensive working model. Thus, school nurses must cultivate professional knowledge and competency and also demonstrate their expertise and uniqueness by offering complete plans of health-promotion schools to improve the health status of the served subjects and to assist them in maintaining a healthy life.
