About Us
NCTU Law was established in year 2000, first known as Institute of Technology Law (ITL). Due to the rapid growth of the IT industry in Taiwan, our founder, Professor Shang-Jyh Liu, sensed the increasing need of IP professionals and decided to provide a better educational environment for those who seek to learn IP law.
Since the establishment of ITL, our institute has gradually become the nation’s center for intellectual property and technology laws. It has become a tradition that the annual “National Technology Law Conference” be held here at NCTU. Every year, hundreds of scholars and legal professionals, as well as business managers and government offi-cials gather at NCTU to discuss a wide range of topics from intellectual property laws to business strategies.
Though relatively young, our law school is one of the most sought-after resources by both public and private sectors in Taiwan. Over 50% of the founding judges in the Taiwan Intellectual Property Court are our alumni, and around 90% of IP professionals working at the nearby Hsinchu Science Park are trained by our law school. The excel-lence and reputation of our law school has achieved in the past decade is unsurpassed by any other institutes across the nation.
Although NCTU Law was built on the solid and profound researches on intellectual property rights, in the past decade, NCTU Law goes beyond IP research and has remarkable achievements in many other fields. The expertise of our current faculty members includes:
Intellectual Property Rights and Knowledge Venture Business Law and White-Collar Crime Gender Equality, Labor Rights and Social Justice Biotech and Health Law Transnational Law and International Negotiation Information and Communication Law
