The traditional scientific disciplines start to merge in the new century and the pioneer research in science is in great need of interdisciplinary training as a result. People with backgrounds in more than one traditional field are highly desired in both academic institutions and high-tech companies. The goal of the “interdisciplinary science degree program” in the College of Science at National Chiao Tung University is to educate such talents with solid interdisciplinary training in pure as well as applied science through a uniquely designed curriculum covering the entire undergraduate years. Particular attention is placed on the inspiration of the students by the exciting scientific trends and the individual guidance to build up the future leaders in science and technology. The program is administrated by a committee at the College level. At present, this program has 88 students from freshman to senior years.
