The Information Management and Finance discipline at NCTU is offered by the department of information management and finance with the purposes of equipping financial professionals with information technology skills for the need in Fin-tech development. The establishment of the bachelor’s degree in Information Management Finance degree is principally designed in a way that is shared by the Institute of Information Management and Institute of Finance. By integrating the lecturer expertise and research contributions from both departments, a series of curriculum can then be provided under the degree. Students under the degree not only benefit from basic finance knowledge training, but also the outstanding education and research performance of NCTU in the area of information technology, which means they are able to raise their skills in applying information technology in finance and other related fields. In addition to, the information financial investment decision curriculum is also designed in a way that helps students build up their practical experience. Overall, the degree has been established with the aim to serve as the pioneer in the area of information finance in the nation.
For achievement of maximum education and research benefits and by considering the significant implication that has on future direction in the area of research, NCTU and the governing authority took a structural reform in 2011 to integrate the Department of Information Management and Finance, Institute of Information Management and Institute of Finance. The three after formal integration in 2013 have been renamed as “Department of Information Management and Finance”, which further emphasize the independence characteristics of the two fields as well as the unique integration of two different fields. After integration, the Information Finance degree is offered under the bachelor’s degree, and the Graduate School is divided into two master’s degree classes and two doctoral degree classes – Master’s Degree and Doctoral Degree in Information Management and Finance, respectively. The graduate program of Information Management has been devoted into educating and bringing up students with skills in both information and management as its goal. Students graduated from the program will not only have acquired information technology skills along with professional management discipline, but more importantly, they are able to apply the information management skills on information technology so to assist businesses in improving their operating performance and resource utilization, identifying strengths and opportunities, and in comprehensive strategic planning. The graduate program of Finance focuses on the integration of theoretical studies with financial planning, financial engineering, and risk management of the enterprises to achieve the goal of combining the internationalized researches with localized applications. Students graduated from the program are equipped to work with banks, insurance, securities and corporate financial management.
